DIY: Home Garden and Patio Improvements | SouthGate Chamber

When you have guests over this spring and summer you want your house to be in tip top shape. Not only does this include your home interior, but this also includes the exterior of your home as well. There are simple ways to implement creativity into the garden and patio area outside of your house. Doing these tasks yourself will not only save you money, but will result in a stunning exterior that you?ll be proud to show off to your family and guests.

DIY ? Building a Sandpit

Kids love sandpits and believe it or not, these are very easy to create. You?ll need the following supplies to create a sandpit: four timber posts, eight decking boards, decking screws, weatherproof ply, pond liner, and of course, several bags of playpit sand. For specific instructions you?ll need to look this up on the web, but creating a pit that your children will love is fairly easy to build. Your kids will have a blast in their sandbox during the warm months ahead!

DIY ? Building a Pergola

If you desire a shady area in your back yard, a pergola is a wonderful element to incorporate. Stay cool and enjoy a warm day under a shady pergola that?s perfect in your back yard. It will keep you in the shade as you relax on a bright summer day and will also look attractive with its stunning beams. To build a pergola you?ll need wood beams, lattice and classy looking columns. When company comes over for a birthday party or another exciting event they?ll love this polished addition to your backyard.

DIY ? Add a Bird House to your Garden Area

With softwood, wood screws, roofing felt, adhesive, and more you can create a bird house that will attract all of the beautiful birds around. If you are a nature lover this is a great project to tackle ? it will look nice on a bright and sunny day when birds need a shelter to flock to. You can enjoy watching them enjoy your birdhouse and be proud of your DIY efforts.

Even though doing it yourself may prove to be challenging, after you accomplish these tasks you will feel as if you can take on any task to fix up the exterior of your home. The patio and garden area of your home is always in need of refurbishing or adding simple elements for extra character. So don?t be afraid to experiment and do things yourself, because the improvements will no doubt turn out fantastic.
