Queen's Christmas Message to reportedly air in 3D, project the royal presence further (update: not entirely first)

Queen's Christmas Message to be broadcast in 3D, project the royal presence

Loyal subjects of the United Kingdom who also embrace the cutting edge of TV may get an extra treat this year. Queen Elizabeth II has reportedly recorded her annual Christmas Message in 3D, supposedly becoming the first member of the British Royal Family to embrace the video format after Prince William turned it down for his wedding. We'll naturally need 3D glasses to catch all the nuances if it happens, although the extra dimension wouldn't be exclusive to the producers at BSkyB who captured it: both the BBC and ITV should supposedly have access as well. While donning funny-looking eyewear for a speech isn't usually our first choice for entertainment, we'll make an exception for Her Majesty if Buckingham Palace confirms the 3D broadcast. Besides, it may be the perfect test of a new 3D TV waiting under the tree.

Update: Thanks to reader Steve, we now know that claims of this being the Queen's first sojourn into 3D weren't right. While it would certainly be the first Christmas Message in 3D, we've learned that a CBC TV crew only just got to shoot in 3D earlier this year. Technically, the very first 3D footage of Queen Elizabeth II was recorded on her coronation in 1953, but it wasn't discovered and processed until just recently.

Last chance (ever?) to vote on Facebook privacy

22 hrs.

The clock ran down on your latest???and quite possibly your last???opportunity to vote on Facebook policy changes.?

The vote, which closed at noon PT on Monday, invited users to say "yea" or "nay" on some more?changes to?how Facebook shares user info, handles email, integrates user info with Instagram, the social?photo app it now owns. This vote, or lack there of, also decides whether Facebook should continue the vote system that allows users to vote?? a practice it first launched in 2009 to a continually?underwhelming?response.

According to Facebook rules, 30 percent?of 1?billion?active users must vote either way for the social network to consider the result as anything more than advisory. That's a high bar, since 30 percent of 1 billion is 300 million.

That's?only?slightly less than the entire population of the United States. You would need to almost triple all of the people who voted in?the last U.S. presidential election. The requirement is amazingly high, though bear in mind, unlike voting for the next president, Facebook users don't even have to brave the weather???or even leave the house???to cast a ballot.

Facebook "has outgrown the current system, which is no longer the most effective way to help people engage in our site governance process,"?Elliot Schrage, Facebook's vice president, communications, public policy and marketing, wrote last week,?introducing the latest vote on the?Facebook Governance Page.

Outgrown? Did it ever really work?

As of Monday afternoon, 668,872 Facebook users had voted, and overwhelmingly against the latest policy changes, but still a long way from 300 million (Final results will be announced Tuesday).?Still, it's better than the previous policy change earlier this year, when only?342,632 users voted.?

Facebook emailed users about its latest policy change three weeks ago, and response was quick, but misguided. As NBC News reported, ?some users suspected the email was yet another spam scam attacking through the social network. Others who failed to read the email for comprehension, if at all, retaliated by cutting and pasting a status update that declared they weren't bound by Facebook's user agreement ? an act that has absolutely no legal standing.

What a lot of users didn't do is?actually take the time to vote. ?Read about Facebook's proposed changes in full here.?

This post was updated at 9:07 p.m. ET on Dec. 10 to reflect that voting closed?and thesocial?network's?preliminary tally.

Helen A.S. Popkin goes blah blah blah about privacy and then asks her to join her on?Twitter?and/or?Facebook. Also,?Google+.?Because that's how she rolls.

Colic treatment? Manipulative therapies may be beneficial treatment for infantile colic

Dec. 12, 2012 ? A Cochrane review of studies into manipulative therapies for colic, by the University of Southampton, suggests that the treatment technique may be of some benefit.

Infantile colic is a distressing problem, characterised by excessive crying of infants and it is the most common complaint seen by physicians in the first 16 weeks of a child's life.

It is usually considered a benign disorder because the symptoms generally disappear by the age of five or six months. However, the degree of distress caused to parents and family life is such that physicians often feel the need to intervene. Some studies suggest that there are longer-lasting effects on the child, and estimates in 2001 put the cost to the NHS at over ?65 million.

It has been suggested that certain gentle, low velocity manipulative techniques such as those used in osteopathy and chiropractic, might safely reduce the symptoms associated with infantile colic, specifically excessive crying time. However, the techniques have also been criticised by people who say there is no evidence that they have an effect on children and that they may be unsafe.

The systematic review, which is published December 12, 2012 in the Cochrane Library, assessed six randomised trials involving a total of 325 infants who received manipulative treatment or had been part of a control group.

Five of the six studies measured the number of hours colicky babies cried each day and their results suggest that crying was reduced by an average of one hour and 12 minutes per day by this treatment, which was statistically significant.

However, in many of the studies parents knew whether their infant was receiving treatment or not, which means that some uncertainty remains about the strength of these conclusions.

The use of manipulative therapies did not result in a significantly greater number of parents reporting complete recovery from colic in the three studies for which this data was available.

Professor George Lewith, Professor of Health Research at the University of Southampton, comments: "The majority of the included trials indicate that the parents of infants receiving manipulative therapies reported fewer hours crying per day than parents whose infants did not. This difference is statistically significant and important for those families who experience this condition. These studies show that in this small sample there were no adverse effects from using these treatments.

"However, we recognise that the collection of studies in our review is small and prone to bias which means we cannot arrive at a definitive conclusion about the effectiveness of manipulative therapies for infantile colic.

"More research is needed in this area to further the debate, especially well blinded trials, which are very difficult to do in children so young. We hope the review published today will offer objective evidence and generate more discussion in this particular area. "

Ideas Of Stand-Up Wrestling ? Recreation and Sports - haydn buffoon

To be a great wrestler, you have to know the rules of stand-up wrestling. Basically, all of it begins on the feet. You could know the correct positions. You have to be in the perfect situation, so that it is possible for you to to undertake essentially the most efficient and efficient wrestling postures. These are the positions or postures that you simply want with the intention to defeat your opponent. By figuring out these postures, it is possible for you to to anticipate your opponent?s transfer and put together for his attacks.

?On Your Toes?

Strictly talking, being on your feet in wrestling would require you to have your elbows in, chin tucked, knees bent and lead leg forward. You should just be sure you maintain your arms near your body. It will help protect you in opposition to having your opponent grabbing onto your arms and taking control of the fight. All the time keep your arms near your body. Don?t simply allow them to dangle in your sides or your front. You?ll want to have your opponent work for it. Wait to your opponent to increase his arms to be able to grab you. Inadvertently, this can go away him open to your attack. That is if you take the chance to assault him.

?Never Take Your Eyes off Your Opponent?

Rule of the thumb in relation to wrestling: Never Look Down! Do not have a look at the floor. Wherever the top goes, the physique follows. You must also avoid wanting up because this place exposes your throat. Stand-up wrestling requires quick thinking. You need to know tips on how to mess together with your opponent?s head. A good wrestler will seemingly pull his opponent?s head in different directions just so to get a response out of his opponent. Having your head manipulated this manner messes with a wrestler?s focus and stability. This is why it is vital that you?ve a strong neck. That is the place neck workout routines help a lot.

?Saddle Your Opponent Your Weight?

Your opponent is your mule if you end up inside the ring. It?s essential let him carry your weight. If you happen to weight 600 lbs, then saddle him with every pound. Do not forget that wrestling is about ?wrestling management? away from your opponent. It?s good to be in management, so you?ll be capable to hook him. You?ll want to anticipate his moves, so that you?ll know how you can respond. That?s how you win in opposition to your opponent.

Lea Michele: My breasts 'are my prizewinners'

By Us Weekly

Marie Claire

Lea Michele is proud of her many accomplishments -- and her breasts, too.

"These babies are great," the "Glee" actress and singer, 26, tells the January issue of Marie Claire of her increasingly on-display cleavage.

PHOTOS: Lea's impressive bikini body and other stars in sexy two-pieces

"They are my prizewinners," boasts Michele, laughing, explaining that it took her a while to comfortably flaunt her bust in revealing gowns as she transitioned from Broadway to TV star.

"For a while they were out and about, showing off on Broadway every night, then they came to L.A. and were like, 'No one else looks like me here!'" she jokes to the magazine. "They were nervous to make their appearance but feel they've earned their place. So they asked if they could come out, and I was like, 'All right, you guys.' They definitely rose to the occasion, so I'm going to continue to give them more opportunities."

Something else Michele has gradually opened up about to the world and her fans? Her real-life romance with "Glee" costar Cory Monteith.

"I don't even remember a time when he wasn't my boyfriend. No one knows me better than Cory," she says of Monteith, 30, who's become a star alongside her on the FOX musical smash.

PHOTOS: 'Glee' cast's real-life yearbook pix!

Us Weekly was first to break news of the pairing in February of this year. Michele and actor Theo Stockman split in September 2011 after about a year together. Monteith briefly dated Taylor Swift in 2010.

"No one knows what it's been like to go through this more than he does. Feeling like you have that net underneath you allows you to jump higher and go farther," she gushes to Marie Claire of her 6'3" man. "He makes me feel like I can do anything. For the first time in my life, I feel really, really settled and happy. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world."
